NHIS 2009 Health Insurance Coverage Estimates Released

June 21, 2010. The National Center for Health Statistics released its report, "Health Insurance Coverage: Early Release of Estimates from the National Health Interview Survey, 2009."   The estimates of health insurance coverage are the first national estimates released for 2009.  The report includes estimates for the US and for the 20 most populated states.

2009 NHIS Uninsurance Estimates Released

The National Center for Health Statistics has released 2009 health insurance coverage estimates from the National Health Interview Survey.  The report, "Health Insurance Coverage: Early Release of Estimates from the National Health Interview Survey, 2009," provides the first look at uninsurance estimates for 2009 for the nation overall and for the 20 largest states in terms of population.

This publication is a map of sub-state uninsurance estimates for Minnesota’s nonelderly population (age 0-64 years) from the 2008 American Community Survey (ACS).  The statewide uninsurance rate was 9.6 percent for this same population and data source.

Cantor and Monheit cited in new HHS rules regarding dependent coverage

May 12, 2010

SHARE grantees Joel Cantor and Alan Monheit were cited in the new rules released by the Department of Health & Human Services regarding implementation of the new dependent coverage provisions included in federal health reform. The newly released rules, which can be viewed at this link, acknowledge Cantor and Monheit's findings on the early experience in states that have extended coverage to dependents suggesting that few uninsured children in these states shift to their parents' policy.

This report presents state-by-state trends in employer-sponsored health insurance coverage from 2000 to 2008.  This coverage has long been the mainstay of coverage in the United States, particularly for middle class families.

The report was released by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for the 2010 Cover the Uninsured Week, a national effort to highlight the fact that too many Americans are living without health insurance and demand solutions from our nation's leaders.

Minnesota Uninsurance Rates Increase

Feburary 5, 2010.  Minnesota released survey results showing that 9.1% of the state's population was uninsured 2009, up significantly from 7.2% in 2007.   Much of the increase was due to a decline in employer-sponsored health insurance coverage.

New study finds increase in the number of Minnesotans without health insurance

Estimates of health insurance coverage gathered from the 2009 Minnesota Health Access Survey reveal an increase in the number of Minnesotans without health insurance.

The Minnesota Health Access Survey is a large-scale health insurance survey conducted jointly by MDH and the School of Public health every two years.
