This publication is a map of sub-state uninsurance estimates for Minnesota’s nonelderly population (age 0-64 years) from the 2008 American Community Survey (ACS).  The statewide uninsurance rate was 9.6 percent for this same population and data source.

Lynn Blewett quoted in WCCO article on high risk pools

In an article posted last week on wcco.com ("Pawlenty Opts Minn. Out Of High-Risk Health Pool"), SHADAC's Lynn Blewett provided information on Minnesota's existing high risk pool and provided commentary on Governor Pawlenty's decision to opt out of the national high-risk pool created under federal health care reform.

SHADAC has established a web page of resources for the health reform initiatives in Minnesota, including the Minnesota state health reform of 2008, the implementation issues surrounding the federal health reform legislation of 2010, and related reports and presentations.  This page was established to help inform the implementation process.

Lynn Blewett, Julie Sonier Testify to Minnesota Senate about How Federal Reform Will Affect the State

April 9, 2010.  SHADAC's Lynn Blewett and Julie Sonier testified yesterday at an informational hearing before the Minnesota Senate Finance Committee's Health and Human Services Budget Division (Senator Linda Berglin, Chair). The hearing was held in order to clarify the immediate and pending effects of federal health reform on Minnesota's health care system.  The committee also hoped to identify what the legislature and state agencies will need to do to both ensure compliance with new regulations and take advantage of optional provisions that might benefit Minnesota.

Julie Sonier Testifies to Minnesota House about the Short-Term Impacts of Federal Reform

SHADAC's new Deputy Director, Julie Sonier, testified on April 6th at an informational hearing before three committees of the Minnesota House of Representatives.  The purpose of the hearing was to discuss state conformity in 2010 and 2011 with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Ms. Sonier noted immediate and short-term impacts of federal reform on several major components of Minnesota's current health care system, observing that the state will soon have to address several significant tasks.  Among other things, the state will have to:

New Report on Minnesota’s 2008 Health Reforms

April 6, 2010.  The National Academy for State Health Policy and the Commonwealth Fund have released a report exploring Minnesota's efforts to transform its health care delivery system.

Minnesota Uninsurance Rates Increase

Feburary 5, 2010.  Minnesota released survey results showing that 9.1% of the state's population was uninsured 2009, up significantly from 7.2% in 2007.   Much of the increase was due to a decline in employer-sponsored health insurance coverage.
