Thanks to the continued support from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation, SHADAC is pleased to announce that the ‘Minnesota Community and Uninsured Profile’ has been updated with 2024 American Community Survey estimates.

This resource, originally created as part of the ‘Minnesota’s Uninsured and the Communities in Which They Live’ project, aims to:

  • Provide information on Minnesota uninsured people
  • Assist policymakers in developing and evaluating enrollment and outreach strategies
  • Understand the characteristics of persons living in various Minnesota communities
  • Maintain a tool that can be used to understand and evaluate equity work, inform planning, assess needs, and support grant writing for related and relevant programs.

With each release of ACS data, SHADAC updates this profile with new estimates and analysis. With this latest update, the profile includes five-year data from 2020–2024 in an organized Excel workbook. The workbook includes various tabs, including:

  1. How to Use — a description of how to use the information in the profile to both identify and gather information on communities of interest
  2. Community and Uninsured Profile — the tool itself, which allows users to select a geography of interest and review: population characteristics of the uninsured in that geography (top half of the profile); and additional community characteristics for that geography (bottom half of the profile).
  3. ZIP Code Uninsured Rates — includes all reported Census-defined ZIP Codes, regions, and counties in Minnesota along with both the number and percent of uninsured within those communities.
